What do virtual tours and selling to multicultural real estate clients have to do with each other you ask?
Well, that's exactly what I wanted to know...
I work and live around several diverse real estate markets in the San Francisco East Bay, and attend real estate marketing meetings on a regular basis.
It was while attending the Valley Real Estate Network (VREN) meeting in Pleasanton, CA that I had the pleasure of hearing Michael Lee speak on the topic. Michael is a nationally recognized speaker and considered the ultimate authority on real estate and culture.
Mr. Lee is an award winning real estate agent and broker since 1977, and author of 7 books on the topic. Michael is the first Asian American in history to be awarded the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation in the 25 year history of the National Speakers Association, as I was told during his introduction. I could keep going, but I think you get the point...
Michael talked about some of the mistakes real estate agents make in the first 30 seconds of meeting new clients and some of the common misconceptions of working with different cultures, such as this quote from his book:
"Many cultures are not as tactile, or "touchy-feely," as the American. A male agent should never touch a traditional Japanese woman, as this would be the near equivalent of sexual assault. Similarly, a male agent should not put his hand on a Chinese woman's forearm or shoulders, however friendly he might mean the gesture."
As serious as this topic can be, Michael's presentation was fun and even humorous, leaving me wanting to know more on the topic and how it could help our clients.
After the meeting was over I introduced myself to Mr. Lee and asked if he would be willing to do a private video interview. He graciously agreed.
Before the interview I read one of his books titled "Opening Doors, Selling to Multicultural Real Estate Clients". If you watch the video interview below and write a comment, I will enter you into a random drawing and GIVE AWAY TWO AUTOGRAPHED BOOKS!
So, to answer the question, "What do virtual tours and selling to multicultural real estate clients have to do with each other", watch the video and find out for yourself.
I hope you enjoy watching the interview as much as I did in doing it! Let me know what you think. Could this help your business? Do you have any stories to share about working with multicultural clients?
